Once content matters, history matters too. Editors want to experiment. Developers want safety. Early Strapi versions did not offer real content versioning.
The Content Versioning plugin from Notum was built to close that gap.
The plugin adds version history to Strapi entries.
Each change creates a new version. Editors can see previous states, track changes, and restore older versions directly from the admin UI. No database work. No developer involvement.
It brings basic, reliable versioning to Strapi content.
The plugin hooks into Strapi’s lifecycle and stores full content snapshots.
No Git workflows. No backups. No custom audit tables.
This was our largest and most impactful Strapi plugin at the time.
It solved a real production problem and was widely adopted by the community. Strapi officially featured it as a community plugin and it became a reference implementation for content versioning in Strapi projects.
Over time, we no longer had the capacity to maintain the plugin properly alongside client work.
So Strapi took the concept and implemented content versioning natively in Strapi v5. That was the right outcome.
The plugin did its job. The feature became part of the core.
